Final Evaluation
I felt that the main weakness of my brief was the range of experimentation within my work. I would usually find an idea I liked and then take that one forward without researching further into other ideas. In future projects, I will broaden my research and develop them further. Although, I do feel that once I had chosen an idea I like, I was good at developing this idea into something which resemble an answer to the brief(s) question. This is something I will still want to improve on for the next project, through a wider range of processes to develop this work, but I feel I will be more than capable when I’m more familiar with the resources around the studio and workshops. For this module, I have used the studio space effectively, as I don’t have the software on my laptop I have mostly been working from the studio macs to create my digital development and final work. Although I could have spent more time in the library, as this would have really helped with gaining deeper more genuine research around the projects I was working on. For future reference, I will try to develop a deeper understanding of the projects I work on through research. I feel I gained a deeper insight past face value and the work of Elon Musk through my research in brief 2, which allowed me to create work which was genuine to him and my interpretation of him and the project, which in turn produced a better more rounded answer to the brief. Another thing to consider for future projects would be to continue mixing analogue and digital processes to develop my work. This was one of the strengths of my work through this project; my first brief involved a lot of analogue processes, which I later developed digitally. These analogue processes produced a more personal and natural finish, which I was able to build from digitally, may that be distorting into a more ordered or disorder form from the original, or just cleaning it up so that it was presentable.
Overall, I don’t feel that I achieved my potential in this module. This was down to a number of reasons; Firstly my time management was terrible, I’d always be doing my work late at night, which would lead me to be unproductive the next morning, which would set me off kilter for the rest of the day, until I start work again later, and then the cycle would begin again; My work rate was very slow at the start of both briefs, which led me to cram in my work at the end, which meant I had to force work which I didn’t feel was up to my personal standards. This also got me very stressed, which didn’t help with my generating of work which was thoughtful and genuine to the brief. In the future, I will aim to keep a consistent amount of work from start to finish of the project, so that the work can naturally grow and develop, which will in turn create a more well-rounded and developed project.
