Study Task 5 - Grid: Film Poster
Using the initial collages (below) as a starting point:Grids
Look for grids where they work quietly in the background (swiss grids), or it can assert itself as an active element
Multi Column Grid
- good for publications
- more columns = more flexible
- Can spread across multiple columns
- Break the rules (look at swiss posters)
- Columns help direct the reader as to how they read the text
- Hang line - horizontal division of the page - text can 'hang' from a common line and 'stack' on top
- Hiarchy - how can you direct the reader as to whats the most important info - through; size, colour, boldness, italic etc. Film title - subheading (a film by ) - minor heading ( a screen of)
- Modular grid - fixed horizontal and vertical grids - 1950s + 60's modernist designers - Gerstner + Muller Brockman + Ruder
