Study Task 5 - Grid: Film Poster

Using the initial collages (below) as a starting point:

Grids

Look for grids where they work quietly in the background (swiss grids), or it can assert itself as an active element

Multi Column Grid
  • good for publications
  • more columns = more flexible
  • Can spread across multiple columns
  • Break the rules (look at swiss posters)
  • Columns help direct the reader as to how they read the text
  • Hang line - horizontal division of the page - text can 'hang' from a common line and 'stack' on top
  • Hiarchy - how can you direct the reader as to whats the most important info - through; size, colour, boldness, italic etc.  Film title - subheading (a film by ) - minor heading ( a screen of)
  • Modular grid - fixed horizontal and vertical grids - 1950s + 60's modernist designers - Gerstner + Muller Brockman + Ruder
Initial photoshop developments
