Studio Brief 2

Experimental Jetset - RESEARCH 

You are asked to create a bespoke typeface for a professional or creative working in any field other than graphic design: music, fashion, sport, literature, film, theatre, science, politics, space exploration, technology, etc.

The typeface will be used as part of their visual identity (for example, in a logotype) and should be flexible enough to work in a range of appropriate contexts (you will need to decide what these are).

We were told to find 5 obscure but significant facts about a chosen professional outside of graphic design, and use 1 of the 9 Bruno Munari typefaces to make the logotype identity. I've chose Elon Musk as I find him very interesting and feel that the forward thinking nature of his work (SpaceX, Tesla, Future of Life) is a good bases for  an interesting branding idea. 

I decided to go with these 5 facts/ideas about Musk;

1. Recorded distance travelled on SpaceX website mapped out in comparison to when he was 18 and travelled to 18 states and build a type from the varying distances, in a graph format.
2. Make a typeface which is based off the experiences in his life, i.e. being bullied in childhood, and running a multi million dollar business. The type will be more complete in more desirable parts of his life (now) in comparison to being bullied where the type will be disrupted. This typeface will follow the grid of market value trends. 
3. His forced unconventionality. This design will focus on Musks sometimes forced nature (i.e. smoking weed on podcast well clearly shouldn't) For this, I will be forcing a method to create a style of text which it normally isn't used for. 
4. Cave drawing as typeface. This type slightly links to forced unconventionality theme. There will be a set of cave drawings used as typeface - linking to Musks insult of a british diver in thai cave rescue as being a 'pedo'. This link between the two being the obvious intention of going overboard and saying something to cause drama. 
5. My fifth idea is to create a logo which contradicts itself throughout, like Musk does with is ordered, factual industry and his impulsive personality. - ordered gird + discorded type position.
